The Barossa is Australia’s most famous wine region. Thankfully, it has also been my home since 1980 and I have been fortunate to be amongst an amazing group of people here.

Our Jellicoe vineyard lies high up in the Eden Valley at around 475 metres above sea level. The low-yielding, 30+-year-old Riesling vines are planted on the lean, rocky yellow podzolic soils and the cool climate perfectly accentuates the classic Riesling typicity.

Tasting Notes

Colour:

Pale straw with a lime green tinge.

Aroma:

Lifted lemon, grapefruit and lime citrus on the nose.

Palate:

A finely textured palate that is brilliantly focused and linear. Pristine citrus fruits and balanced by classic, regional Eden Valley bright acidity, leading to superbly long mouth-watering dry finish. Wonderfully poised for a graceful development.

Food Pairing:

Barbequed scallops or King George Whiting, Salt & Pepper Whole fish or garlic prawns all work with the refreshing style served chilled

Exquisite and delicately expressed on the nose, showing crunchy apple, lemon peel and white floral nuances, leading to a finely focused palate offering outstanding concentration and fruit purity. Splendidly harmonious with racy acidity, finishing impressively long and elegant. At its best: 2026 to 2038. July 2023

Jellicoe Eden Valley Riesling 2023 – Vines of around three decades, planted nearly 500 metres above sea level, provide the fruit for this rather special Eden Valley Riesling. Like most of the new range, the name apparently pays tribute to a distant relative who was a mathematician involved with predicting the location of Neptune (or possibly a British Admiral?). Others are named after the rings of Neptune. I guess that is something to Klingon to (sorry, someone had to say it). This is brilliant value. A gleaming pale lemon/green hue, the nose is utterly alluring. Dripping with limes and lemons and various citrus fruits, there is also a touch of florals. A hint of crisp pear. Seamless and with excellent length, there is a fine line of acidity, right through to the lingering finish. Cracking Riesling which will drink beautifully for at least the next ten to fifteen years. 95.
